Excellent Tool! November 2, 2009 B. Slough (PA) This DVD/CD has been an excellent tool for teaching music to my early elementary students - they can "feel" the music more as they move to it! Although some of the motions are repetitive, the movement is beautiful and reflective of the quality, classic music with which it is paired. Peggy Lyman is also a pleasure to watch as she moves so beautifully.
Calming way to get your kids moving!! October 26, 2009 Nicole M. Amling (Portland, Oregon United States) This comes with a DVD with classical music and movements that fit them music. The movements are simple and anyone can do them or modify them to meet their needs. It has been a great way to have my students move and get wiggles out with out getting all wound up. Much better then a recess. Other then it being a little on the expensive side I would say it is a great product over all!!
Move it. A resource no classroom should be without. September 15, 2009 John Crever Every single piece of music can be heard a thousand times, with something new to be revealed every time. Excellent recordings, choreographed by a world class dancer. It's all about children learning to respond expressively to music through movement. A side bonus is that by going through the exercises, children, and teachers alike, learn about form by experiencing it with their bodies. No music, drama, creative movement or dance class should be without this instructional DVD. Learn everyone of these exercises and lead each class with a new exercise each week; then get Move-it 2 for an additional 20 exercises. The kids love it. Even a classroom teacher could lead the children in a transitional activity movement. great for active children, and rainy days, or a great way to start every morning or bring them down from recess transition back to book learning.
Definitely worth it! August 11, 2007 Scrap Forever (PA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
After experiencing a workshop with John Feierabend, I was planning to purchase this for my classroom. It was great to find it at Amazon. The DVD/CD helps children experience classical music in a new way and keeps them focused and involved in the listening process.
Lovely Movement July 27, 2007 Ellen Johansen (East Hampton, NY USA) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
My only reservation about the DVD is that the movement is from the waist up. It just takes getting used to. I can see the value of this on one hand but on the other hand, so much of our steady beat movement occurs with the feet. The dancer in the DVD is wonderful to watch. She has subtlety in her movement.
When I tried it out with my students, I found it much harder for the students to do. I would not try to do all the movements at once but select two movements at a time and repeat them in a structurely sound way.
